Sunfish, Laser and other Board Boats
Our board boat fleet includes Sunfish, Lasers, Melges, Vanguard and others. What distinguishes board boats from other sail craft is that they are shallow and often flat on top. Most have a foot well or cockpit for your legs, and are lightweight. You sit on board boats, rarely in them. While small, they are exciting to sail. They are very affordable and an excellent way to learn to sail, especially for our youth.
Ease of Use
Members store their Sunfish, Lasers and other board boats in Club sheds and pull their boats a short distance over our beach using shared dolly’s provided by the club. Some members opt to dry sail board boats that are too large to fit in the sheds. They are stored on their trailers along with the catamarans and beach launched in the same manor. The sheds not only store the boats but sails and all your gear, which means no hassle traveling to the club and getting on the water fast.
Safety
PMC is one of the few places on Lake Ontario where you can effectively beach launch light weight sailboats, within a protected harbor. Protection from the predominately western winds on Lake Ontario ensures safety for our members getting on the water and returning to land. Club members share Duty Officer responsibilities one weekend day each season. The club maintains a rescue power boat for use by our on duty Sail Patrol and Pultneyville Fire and Water Rescue is on the scene for any serious issues requiring professional aid.
Racing
Depending on membership interest, board boats participate in fun racing events, both mixed and single class. PMC has been host to several regional Sunfish regattas. Members enjoy Sunday afternoon races throughout the summer season, weather permitting. We share fixed markers maintained by the Pultneyville Yacht Club for long distance racing and set up portable markers for near shore, short course events to increase practice maneuvers. PMC is a casual racing club, perfect for beginners or individuals looking for a home base for practice sessions in-between travel regattas. Members volunteer for Fleet Captain positions and help organize events. We are eager to introduce our club to perspective members interested in helping PMC build up our fleets, programs and achieve critical mass.
Cost
PMC provides exceptional value for the small sailboat owner. The Docking & Storage Fee for a board boat stored in our shed system is currently $120 per season. The sheds not only store the boats but sails and all your gear year around, which means no hassle traveling to the club and getting on the water fast.
